我已经写了一份PS初稿：希望专业咨询师能给我提出修改建议。 Statement of Purpose Born in Urumqi, Xinjiang Province-a city far beyond sea, because of the job of my father, I had the chance to spend each of my summer vacation in Hainan-an island where I called “another home” since I was in Primary school. The itinerary took more or less a week by train and transfer to ship and spans more than half the area of China. However, enjoying rather than complaining about this kind of jolt and exhausted trip, I gained a lot of fun from it. Through the travel from dry Gobi of northwest to wet tropical seaside of South, I keep my eyes on attractive scenery outside the train window. In the first half of July every year, when wheat are still green in the north, farmers of south have already had their harvest. From north to south, the stature of human body is becoming shorter while trees became taller and bigger, and of rich diversity. Perhaps it is this multiple years of travel that endows me with eyes that yearn for observing the nature. By curiosity and having a genuine interest in explore the inner explanation of these observations, I am programmed to make desire to learn life science. Austin L. Hughes once said, “The evolutionary process finds a way to create exceptions to every model we propose.” In biosphere, these exceptions are the unlimited origin of eliciting our explorations to uncover the profound mystery of the life. With my mind set on the very specific goal of preparing myself as excellently as possible for a future in the field of life science, I chose the college of life science in Beijing Normal University when I graduated from high school. However, in the process of pursuing the goal, I met a frustration. Because of the unsatisfied scores of the National College Entrance Examination, I failed to enter college of life science; instead I had to go to School of Geography. Although I express no much favor to learn geography, after a year, I got good score in each subject and win professional scholarship. At that time, every outstanding freshman had a chance to transfer their profession. Thus, I had to make a choice between leaving and keeping back. Choosing the former means that I must prepare to go into a new class, to adjust to new surroundings, and to extrude time out of the tremendous amount of work in the second and the third academic year to remedy the required course which have to be learned in the first year. Instead, choosing the latter means that I can be elected into national science-training class smoothly to gain some special training of research. Do not want to act hastiness, I pondered on my interest on life science consciously and read a lot of related books. When I learned that the power of interest I showed in life science is much greater than that of any pressure, I choose to transfer the profession and then succeeded. Through all of my accomplishments and disappointments, I have always been especially proud of this experience that I had courage to persist in my goal of becoming a research scientist in the field of life science. In the next two academic years, I did my best in learning every course and doing experiments. Reward for my diligence, I ranked No.1 out of 114 students according to overall average score in the second academic year and No. out of in the third academic year and win professional scholarships in both years. As Aristotle said that habit is second nature, born in a family that both of my parents are teachers, I formed good learning habit and treat everything I do seriously and carefully. Being absorbed in study of a series of courses, I obtained a solid academic background in chemistry and basic biology. In addition to my ability to excel in the classroom, I have demonstrated a proficiency in most aspects of experiment skills. Although I have not participated in actual research project because of my burden of courses, from lab courses, I gained many chances of having basic research training such as cloning and expression of alkaline phosph-atase(AKP) gene of Escherichia coli, extraction and purification of the AKP and analyze and some of the properties of it. Especially in the independent experiment of research on influence of norcantharidin on growth and apoptosis of L-02 human liver cells and BEL-7402 human hepatoma cells, I was act as leader of the team to confirm the experiment purpose, to design the experimental methods and to establish the experiment plan. By being intimately involved in every aspect of research, from proposal and grant writing to data collection and analysis, I have learned what it takes to be a researcher, but more than that, I have learned how fulfilling and interesting research can be. This experience attests to my leadership ability, maturity, cooperation and responsibility, and helped me develop my ability to think critically and present a brilliant thesis. From my transcripts, the accomplishment of my college years proves me a well-balanced student. Because most of the courses I learned involve basic and wide ranged contents, the questions posed and answered during the study of these courses have fascinated me for a very long time and have stimulated me to ask and seek to answer further questions. That’s why I want to choose to earn a Ph.D. and to continue pursuing a career as a research scientist. Although my exact research goals have not yet to be refined, considering my basic research training in college years, I want to apply to your graduate program on molecular and cell biology. Nowadays, explain variety of life phenomenon at the molecular and cellular levels is becoming an important aspect and trend of future research in the field of life science. Especially after Human Genome Project was accomplished, molecular and cell biology is becoming the basic method to investigate the fundamental processes of life, find the cause of disease and provide the target of medical treatment. Life science at Brandeis provides their future students with flexible curriculum plan in favor of inspiring students’ interest and potentiality. The combination of an internationally recognized research offered by Brandeis University also give those people who have ambitions in the field of life science opportunities to have intellectual interactions with prestigious faculty. I wanted the opportunity to communicate with those friends with the same goals and explore my career options to make a well-informed decision as to the area of my future research. Personally, I believe the ultimate of each step of education is to develop the powers of the mind. The academic disciplines in college years help me acquire the elementary skills of being an eligible researcher such as analytical thinking, critical thinking, cooperation and responsibility. Those innovative and exciting programs that emphasize an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge and the solution of real-life problems provided by Brandeis University will surly serves as a vehicle for develop and refining these skills.
